about

It’s not really about cats – love the drums on this one – has that driving Keith Moon meets pub rock fills – first recorded this in an unfurnished ski lodge gone to pot looking apartment in Nashville – the first week or so I lived there – lets call it 1993 – the room consisted of a mattress, a four track, and a digital reverb – my cat - who was my roomates cat, kept meowing over the vocals – did it acoustically – had an Everly Brothers vibe – with me as both brothers – later recorded with a band called PEEL – with a different guy singing it – this version is by far my favorite – the song still feels true to me – it’s about a different cat now and a different woman – nothing changes but the scenery and the tax bracket

lyrics

I wonder is there music for cats does it sound like little mice scurrying into the traps of their teeth
is it all about survival and instinct and scheming
Here comes mine she’s furry and black as she digs and secures her claws to my lap
I wonder what she thinks about when she’s dreaming
When she bites me does she mean it When she delights me does she mean it
I think that she loves me and she’s taking a nap I wonder is there music for cats
I wonder is there music for cats

Sit with my lover and I sings her a song and she gets really sad and I ask her what’s wrong
and she tells me nothing but she knows I do not believe here
I search for the truth she camouflages like stains words that she hides from her lips in her brain
but all I get are kisses that tastes like Geneva
When she’s lying does she mean it And when she’s crying does she mean it
I couldn’t find her feelings if she drew me a map I wonder is there music for cats
I wonder is there music for cats

Is there music for cats? Country disco or rap. On what beat do they snap?
And she’s likes me does she mean it? And when she fights me does she mean it?
I think that she loves me then she’s taking a nap. I ask her is there music for cats?
I wonder is there music for cats?
